The Haka doesn’t have to be something that is feared. Above all else it is a rallying cry for Maori warriors to come together, join forces and prevail.

Yet never has the Ka Mate Haka been quite as powerful and moving as this one performed at the scene of Jerry Collins and Alana Madill’s fatal crash.

The brilliant blindside’s All Black team-mates Neemia Tialata, Byron Kelleher, Chris Masoe, Carl Hayman and Ali Williams performed the traditional rallying cry this week, with Tialata tweeting:

Collins’ daughter Ayla survived the crash but remains in critical condition. This crowd-funding page was set up to support the 11-week-old orphan and has already raised over NZ$31,000.
