JOLIET — If you are a supporter and a loyal customer of Joliet’s Angie’s Pancake House at 1119 Essington Road, you have only three days left to eat your favorite meals here. During an interview on Thursday, restaurant owner Mario De La Torre told Joliet Patch he is shutting down Angie’s Pancake House after this weekend.
He will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and that’s it.
Angie’s is permanently closed starting next week.

De La Torre also ran his Loco’s Mexican Restaurant out of the same location, operating as Angie’s for breakfast and lunch and then serving as Loco’s for the evening crowd. He said he shut down Loco’s about two weeks ago in preparation for his departure.
De La Torre told Patch that he opened Loco’s 12 years ago. Angie’s Pancake House opened at the same location on May 10, 2021.

“Somebody else bought the restaurant, and they want to fix up the place,” De La Torre remarked. “It’s going to be closed two or three months.”
De La Torre did not want to reveal the details about the new restaurant owner’s plans or what type of cuisine their menu would consist of.
He said the new restaurant will no longer be called Angie’s Pancake House or Loco’s Mexican Restaurant.
“It will be a different name, different everything,” he said.
De La Torre, who is in his 60s, said he expects to take the next few months off, to relax and re-energize. He typically works from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, during his time operating Angie’s and Loco’s, he said.
As for Angie’s and Loco’s, “it was good. I can’t complain,” De La Torre said. “I want to take a few months vacation, take some time off and maybe go to another location. I want to find a spot for either breakfast and lunch, but I’ve got to find the right location.”
De La Torre said if he reopens another restaurant, it will likely be somewhere in the Joliet region, but not necessarily within the city of Joliet.
