The father of a 20-year-old girl who was killed by a stalker by pushing her in front of a train in Chennai has died of a heart attack.
Manickam had collapsed and was admitted in a hospital after learning that his daughter Sathyapriya was killed by a stalker.
The 56-year-old died at a private hospital in Chennai late on Thursday night.
What happened at the railway station
Sathyapriya was killed on Thursday after a stalker pushed her before a moving train at St. Thomas Mount Railway station in Chennai.
The 20-year-old B.Com student at Jain College, Chennai was on her way to attend classes on Thursday when she was confronted by the accused, identified as Satheesh.
The duo entered into a heated argument leading to the stalker pushing her before the moving train that was heading to Tambaram from Egmore.
Though the onlookers had tried to catch hold of him, he had managed to escape.
Victim and accused were know to each other
According to the family, 23-year-old Satheesh was known to the victim.
The victim’s mother is a head constable of police at Adambakkam police station, Chennai and the father of the accused is a retired police sub-inspector.
Both were living at the police quarters at Alandur.
The family said that Satheesh, a class eight drop out was stalking Sathyapriya for the past couple of years. Last week, she filed a complaint against him at the local police station, after which a ‘compromise’ was reached, but, the accused continued to follow Sathyapriya.
Satheesh who fled the scene after pushing Sathyapriya in front of the train was arrested by the police on Friday morning.
A similar crime in 2021
Sathyapriya was killed just over a year after a similar murder happened in another Chennai railway station.
On September 23, 2021, M Swetha, a college student, was stabbed to death near the Tambaram railway station.
The accused, G Ramachandran, who tried to kill himself by slitting his throat was caught by local auto drivers.
According to the police, Swetha, a Medical Laboratory Technology at the Madras Christian College student and G Ramachandran, who worked at a private manufacturing unit in Maraimalai Nagar after completing BE had known each other for nearly two years.
However, the relationship fell apart and Ramachandran suspected that Swetha was having an affair with someone else.

On September 23, they met near the Tambaram railway station and got into an argument after which Ramachandran stabbed Swetha to death.
