COVID Entry Test Requirement For FIFA World Cup Fans Scrapped By Qatar

Qatar, who will be hosting the upcoming FIFA World Cup, has scrapped a requirement for visitors to have a negative COVID test before leaving for the country, said its health ministry in a statement, as per Reuters.

Earlier, fans were informed that they needed to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test even if they were vaccinated.

Also, Qatar residents need not take a COVID-19 test within 24 hours of returning from abroad.

Qatar is easing restrictions because “the number of COVID-19 cases (is) continuing to drop around the world and in Qatar, and the ongoing roll-out of Qatar’s National COVID-19 Vaccination Program,” according to the statement. 

According to data from the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar has nearly 3 million people and has recorded over 440,000 confirmed cases plus 692 deaths.
