Four More Mae Young Classic Participants Just Announced by WWE

WWE is currently gearing up for their next big tournament event that will be taking place next month, and they have begun announcing some of the participants for the Mae Young Classic tournament. After the success of last year’s tournament, WWE announced that a second edition of the 32-woman tournament would be returning to Full Sail University on August 8th and August 9th. The company has already confirmed that former Divas Champion Kaitlyn will be returning for the first time in four years to compete in the tournament, and it was also announced yesterday that Performance Center recruit and standout from last year’s show, Rhea Ripley, will also be involved once again this year.
The company has just announced four more women who will be coming in to compete in the tournament. Below are all of the new (and familiar) names who will be taking part in this year’s edition of the show:
Io Shirai – A legend in her home country, Io Shirai is an accomplished Japanese wrestler and former Stardom champion that WWE has had their sights set on for a while. Rumors suggested that she would be involved in last year’s show, but the company decided against signing her due to some medical issues. However, WWE announced that she had signed a deal to join the company earlier this summer. With the amount of experience that she has, it is entirely possible that Shirai would end up winning the entire tournament.

Kacy Catanzaro – Another recruit of the WWE Performance Center who has competed in a few NXT matches this year, Catanzaro made a name for herself by becoming the first woman to compete in the finals of the “American Ninja Warrior” show.
Jinny – This competitor has been making a name for herself in the United Kingdom wrestling scene over the past few months, and in addition to being the first female graduate of the PROGRESS wrestling school, she is also the current PROGRESS Women’s Champion.
Nicole Matthews – An independent wrestler with over a decade of experience, Matthews has traveled all over the world, but she’ll have her chance to make an impact in WWE later on this summer.
