James Ellsworth will be getting his shot at the WWE World Championship on Tuesday night.
After Ellsworth interfered in Sunday’s TLC main event between AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose to help give Styles the win, it was announced on Talking Smack that Ellsworth would challenge Styles for the title on this week’s SmackDown.
Ellsworth joined Renee Young and Daniel Bryan on the post-TLC edition of Talking Smack to explain why he seemed to turn on his storyline best friend. Ellsworth called the decision a strategic one, citing that he’s already beaten Styles three times and thinks he has his number. He said he’d help make it up to Ambrose by giving him the first shot at the title after he wins.
As part of the ongoing feud between Styles and Ambrose, Ellsworth got three wins over Styles on SmackDown in recent weeks. He beat the WWE World Champion twice in October, once with Ambrose’s assistance as the special guest referee and once by disqualification. And Ambrose helped him beat Styles in a ladder match two weeks ago to earn the title shot.
