Jared Leto Is Just as Confused About the Different Joker Movies as You Are

The past two weeks have brought reports about no fewer than three Joker-related movies in the works at Warner Bros: One is a Joker origin story that would take place outside the continuity of the DC Extended Universe; one is a Harley Quinn and Joker film set inside the DCEU; and one is Suicide Squad 2, which is also within the DCEU and just lined up a writer-director in Gavin O’Connor.

You might say it’s complicated—and Jared Leto would agree.

The actor who originated the DCEU incarnation of the Joker in Suicide Squad said Wednesday in an interview with On Demand Entertainment, “I’m a little confused too.”

Speaking to the U.K.-based YouTube channel at a launch event for the video game Destiny 2, Leto explained that “there are a couple of things happening in the DC world,” and he’s keeping an open mind about them.

“I love the Joker,” he said. “He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe, and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. But there are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
