The apple didn’t fall far from the tree for Jennifer Hudson: The American Idol alum is the spitting image of her late mom. On Monday, which would have been mom Darnell Donerson’s 66th birthday, the Dreamgirls star shared an emotional tribute to her mother, eight years after her murder.
“Today would have been my late mothers 66th bday! In her words ‘If you think you’ve seen it all just keep on living,’” Hudson wrote alongside a side-by-side image of the two looking crazy similar. On the left, the singer rocks a pixie cut and a fierce cat eye, while her mother looks gorgeous with the same hairstyle years earlier.
Hudson’s mother Darnell and brother Jason were murdered in October 2008 in the home where she grew up on Chicago’s South Side. Her former brother-in-law, William Balfour, was convicted of the crime.
On Election Day, Hudson also remembered her mother’s last actions, which involved voting in the presidential election. “The last thing my mother did was go vote for Obama ! So it’s odd that I would run across this picture on Election Day, the day after her birthday n she’s wearing a shirt saying ‘vote your choice,’” the star wrote. “Well mommy I already did but Pls vote today guys !!!”
