'No, no' – Mourinho denies rumours of Ibrahimovic Man Utd return

The Portuguese manager has denied that he has any interest in signing the Sweden international as cover for the misfiring Romelu Lukaku

Jose Mourinho has denied that he wants to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January as short-term cover for the misfiring Romelu Lukaku.

The Portuguese has been linked with a potential move for the Sweden international, who is currently at LA Galaxy in MLS.

Ibrahimovic has shown no signs of slowing down in America, scoring 22 goals in 26 domestic appearances, and also registering seven assists.

The Swede spent the best part of two years at United between 2016 and 2018, winning the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

But Mourinho maintains that he holds no interest in bringing the former Barcelona and Inter man back.

“No, no,” he replied at his pre-match press conference on Friday, when asked if he held an interest in the 37-year-old.

Mourinho has nevertheless again bemoaned a lack of options up front.

The Portuguese decided not to make a substitution during United’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Juventus earlier this week.

He later claimed that he did not have the required attacking depth on the bench to make a change, with youngster Tahith Chong the only option.

And he has again insisted that he does not have a central player to bring on if Lukaku is failing to score, with the Belgian going through four Premier League games without a goal, as well as three European encouters.

“Well against Juventus to give him a break, I don’t think Carrick can play as a striker,” Mourinho added.

“So against Juventus or we play with the players that we did or we decide to give a rest to Lukaku, then Rashford, who plays as a winger?

“We are not in the best moment to try to think about resting players or try to find solutions, the solutions is to find the players we have.”

Lukaku’s lack of form is worrying Mourinho, but former United striker Dimitar Berbatov insists that he will find the net soon enough, pointing to the fact that, before he scored five goals against Blackburn Rovers, he was on a similar scoreless run.
