NXT: McIntyre vs. Adam Cole w/ HBK, New Takeover Match, Awards

NXT hosted a Takeover show featuring the first WarGames match in WWE history earlier this year. Before that, the developmental brand hosted a live event in San Antonio, Texas which featured Drew McIntyre, the NXT Champion at the time, putting his title on the line in the main event against Adam Cole with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee. The match finally aired on the WWE Network as the sole match during the recent “Year In Review” show for NXT. The match featured impressive maneuvers from McIntyre, Cole, and Michaels, and Undisputed Era members Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish even got involved. Be sure to check out the most recent edition of NXT to see the match.
Aleister Black had been undefeated ever since he debuted for NXT in early 2017, but that undefeated streak came to an end when Johnny Gargano pinned Black to earn an NXT Championship match against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia. One of the reasons why Black lost the match was due to interference from Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era. It looks like Black will have a chance to get his revenge, because it was announced on NXT this week that Black and Cole will face off in a singles match at NXT Takeover in Philadelphia. The show will be taking place one night before the Royal Rumble, January 27th, 2017.
In the past, NXT usually gives out a series of awards to their performers at the beginning of the year after fans vote online for some of their favorite competitors from the past twelve months. The tradition will continue as voting has officially opened up for the NXT Year-End Awards on WWE.com. Categories this year include “Takeover of the Year,” “Female Competitor of the Year,” “Male Competitor of the Year,” “Overall NXT Competitor of the Year,” “Tag Team of the Year,” “Breakout Star of the Year,” “Future Star of NXT,” “Rivalry of the Year,” and finally, “Match of the Year.” Fans are encourage to tweet out a hashtag of the category and nominee they wish to vote for. The winners will be announced during NXT Takeover: Philadelphia.
