Pence campaigns for Montana special election candidate

Vice President Pence is heading to Montana on Friday for several events, including campaign work for the GOP candidate in the state’s closely watched special election.

Pence will travel to Billings, Mont., to tour a coal company and participate in a listening session with business leaders and Crow Nation tribal leaders along with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, according to Pence’s schedule.

Pence and Zinke will tour Westmoreland Coal Company’s mine, which is on the Crow Indian Reservation, then do the listening session at Westmoreland Resources Inc.

The vice president will end his day in Montana speaking at a campaign event for Greg Gianforte, who is running in the special election to fill Zinke’s at-large House seat. Gianforte will face off against Democrat Rob Quist on May 25.

Montana’s single seat has been a reliable GOP stronghold, but the race has tightened in the final weeks before the race.

Quist, a Montana musician, is now within single digits of a Gianforte in recent polls and plans to have progressive stalwart Sen.
