The Trailer for Whitney Houston’s “Can I Be Me” Documentary Will Leave You Speechless

The first trailer for Whitney: Can I Be Me, the documentary about the meteoric rise and tragic downfall of late pop icon Whitney Houston was released on Tuesday. With never-before-seen footage and interviews with those who knew her best, the film hits the highest and lowest notes of Houston’s life in the spotlight. The result is a tour de force of emotion worthy of the incomparable diva.

“There will always only be one Whitney Houston, and all you can say is ‘drug addict’? Come on. Please,” a voice says at the outset of the trailer. As the clip continues, intimate scenes from Houston’s public and private life flash across the screen with poignant insights from her loved ones scattered throughout. One person suggests that “the longer she stayed in it, the harder it was to get out,” while another shares, “her rise to fame just took the wind out of her.” But the biggest bombshell revelation hits at the end: “Whitney Houston died from a broken heart. She died from a broken heart.”

Ugh.
