This Famous Female Director Is Helming the Charlie’s Angels Reboot

Charlie’s Angels is getting a fresh makeover almost two decades after the first crime thriller movie, courtesy of the brains behind the hit musical Pitch Perfect 2.

Variety reports that Elizabeth Banks will be getting into the director’s chair for the reboot of the popular girl power series about three female private detectives, and that the badass trio—famously played by Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu in the sexy 2000 flick and reprised in 2003’s sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle—will be returning to the big screen as early as summer 2019, according to a statement issued from Sony on Tuesday.

Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith originally starred as the three private eyes working for a benefactor named Charlie in the 1976 TV series Charlie’s Angels, which ran for five seasons until 1981.

While there’s no word yet on who will be cast in the reboot, the entertainment giant also confirmed that Banks will also be producing the film alongside her husband Max Handelman.
