We’re All In This Together: Help Patch Help Our Communities
President Donald Trump signed the $2 trillion stimulus package Friday after the House of Representative gave final congressional approval as the number of cases of coronavirus in the United States topped 101,000. The legislation will deliver checks to individuals, expand unemployment benefits and provide money for states and businesses hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the United States has the dubious distinction as the world leader in the number of known confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. The tally among the 50 states reached another grim milestone Friday, with more than 101,00 people having contracted the virus; more than 1,600 have died from it, and more than 860 have recovered.
In a change of tone and substance, Trump apparently gave up on voluntary support to alleviate the need for additional ventilators. Trump issued an order Friday that seeks to force General Motors to produce ventilators for coronavirus patients under the Defense Production Act.
His action came less than a day after he claimed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others were exaggerating the need for the machines, needed by some victims of the virus to breathe.

The worst isn’t close to over, and the coming week could be rough for some hot spots around the country, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams warned Friday.
“We also see hot spots like Detroit, like Chicago, like New Orleans that will have a worse week next week than they had this week,” Adams said in an interview with CBS.
Worldwide, 586,140 people had gotten sick and 26,865 had died from the new coronavirus as Friday afternoon. Among those sick is British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Downing Street said Friday the prime minister is experiencing mild symptoms and is self-isolating but is “continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus.”
