11 Brilliant Inventions By Engineers That Can Solve A World Of Problems

The world may make fun of engineers but they have brilliant minds that find unique solutions to widespread problems. Today, we will look at 11 examples where engineers showed everyone that they were above the trolls.

1. Engineer solves Ladakh’s water problem

Chewang Norphel worked as a civil engineer with the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Department. His breakthrough came when he designed the first artificial glacier in Leh. His invention solved the region’s water crisis faced by farmers. His invention led to the creation of 17 artificial glaciers across Ladakh and earned him the title, “The Ice Man of India”.

    3. Engineering students use recycled debris to make building blocks

A team from Kongu Engineering College, Erode, in Tamil Nadu recently won an award in the Carbon Zero Challenge competition organised by IIT Madras for creating building blocks from concrete debris. They said that the debris can be recycled into construction material like hollow or paver blocks which are stronger and more durable than conventional bricks and concrete blocks.

    9. Engineer turns waste plastic into fuel

Satish Kumar, a mechanical engineer from Hyderabad, used end-life plastic to recycle and turn it into synthetic fuels. Nearly 500 kg of non-recyclable plastic can produce 400 litres of fuel. Kumar said he was working on a three-step reverse engineering system where the plastics can be indirectly heated in vacuum conditions, depolymerised, gasified and condensed.
