Aviation may be dominated by men, but that’s not stopping female pilots from encouraging women across the world to take it up as a profession. There are plenty of people on Instagram posting pictures of their glamorous lifestyles and exciting travels but through their Instagram accounts; however, a group of female pilots are showing the world that taking up flying as a profession is as easy as a breeze. These pilots are stunning everyone with cockpit views, vacations, and their uber cool lifestyles.
1. Maria Pettersson
25-year-old Maria Fagerström from Lund in Sweden is an airline pilot who has 240,000 followers on Instagram. Fagerström was inspired to become a pilot by her father who is a captain on an Airbus 320, and would take her and her sisters on his flights with him, reports the Independent.
Along with spectacular cockpit photos, Maria also documents her yoga regime. She told the Independent, “I take my yoga mat with me everywhere I go. I think it’s important to find time for yourself, even if it’s only for five minutes of your day.”
Now that’s one hell of an inspiring woman!
2. Maria Fagerström
Maria Fagerström, 25, a Canary Islands-based, Swedish-born pilot, is soaring not just in the sky, but online as well. Maria has amassed nearly 300,000 followers on Instagram, where she posts pictures of herself at the flight deck. Fagerstrom was also inspired by her pilot father. Co-incidentally the two Marias (Petterson and Fagerström) have bonded over their passion for planes and yoga through Instagram. How cool is that!
3. Christa
This multi-talented Dutch jet jockey loves “lifting weights, drinking coffee, hiking mountains & taking pictures”. With more than 17,000 followers, Christa is ruling social media and her pictures from the deck are jaw-dropping.
4.Eva Claire Marseille
Eva Claire Marseille is a 31-year-old pilot from the Netherlands with 85, 000 followers on Instagram. She also has a blog called Fly With Eva, where she writes about finding her way into the industry and her experiences with passengers who look down upon a female pilot. After long days sitting on the flight deck, she stay active with kickboxing and yoga.
5. Michelle Gooris
The 25-year-old RyanAir pilot shares has about 69,000 followers on Instagram. She started training at CAE Aviation Academy Amsterdam when she was 19. Gooris wanted to share her story to show that anyone can become a pilot as long as they give it their all. “This industry is about passion and the will to work hard for your goals in life,” she writes in her blog.
6. Olivia
Olivia is a Boeing pilot from Sweden and her Instagram pictures are out of this world . Apart from breaking stereotypes in style, Oilvia posts spectacular travel pictures.
7. Adokmurdah aka Alex
Also known by the name Alex, her Instagram account is filled with cool flying and snowboarding pictures! You are going to envy her adventurous lifestyle!
8. Susythepilot
Susanna Sundberg started flying at 23, on the Scottish Aviation Bulldog. This Swedish pilot has gathered a large following online, posting regular updates on her Instagram account about her adventures flying the rather unique Avrojet around Europe.
9. Lindy
Dutch Volotea pilot Lindy likes to fly (the B717), sail, travel and take pictures of everything she does. She’s also a part-time model. She told The Sun “Discovering the world, either on the job or in my free time is the best.
“Getting to see the world from the sky, feeling the power of the engines in your hands at take-off, getting to fly a huge aircraft through sometimes challenging weather and touching down smoothly gives you an amazing sensation.”
10. Eser Aksan Erdogan
Pilot-turned-social-media star, Eser Aksan Erdogan has more than 90,000 followers on Instagram. Erdogan, 31, is a pilot for Istanbul-based Pegasus Airlines, flying a Boeing 737 around Europe and the Middle East.
11. Allison Leeward
Allison Leeward’s account is filled with cool airplane pictures! She enjoys writing and plans to become a public relations representative for an aerospace company when she graduates.
The International Society of Women Airline Pilots (ISA) has estimated that just 4,000 of the world’s 130,000 pilots, or a mere three per cent, are women. And these women are paving the way for a new tomorrow. If you are feeling instant regret about your current job, don’t worry we are all in the same boat.
But take comfort in the fact that not everyone can be high-flying.
