While growing up, staying away from home seems like the most attractive idea. The thought of having your own space, no curfew and a whole lot of chilling scenes with friends is really exciting to any person who hasn’t stayed away from home.
For those who have, these are all interesting ideas but there’s nothing like the comfort of home. You won’t miss home the day you move out but in the days ahead, there’ll be a homesickness that’ll settle in your soul as you realize that there’s no mom to pamper you, no dad to care enough to set a curfew and no siblings to pick a fight with.
Here are 11 things that you never thought but do miss about home once you’ve moved out:
1. First and foremost, you will miss ‘ghar ka khaana’. Eating food from outside with no one stopping you may seem like the most liberating thing in the first few weeks, but by the third week, you’ll crave for home-cooked food which was almost always made according to the way you like it. You’ll miss the familiar taste and your heart will crave for even the tinda made by your mom.

2. You’re going to sorely miss waking up to a noisy house where your mom wakes you up, dad is shouting out for his breakfast and your sibling is going through your stuff to find clothes. You may have hated every bit of it but you’ll realize that staying on your own is too silent and you’d prefer a lively house to it any given day.

3. This one may surprise you but you’ll miss your mom’s taunts. Seems weird that you’ve spent your whole life running away from it only to miss it as an adult? However, when you’re away from home and seem like you’re losing all control of life, you wish your mom would say something mean enough to make you take back all that control.

5. You will actually and for real miss your siblings. You may have had the worst fights with mom and it may have involved doctors but once you’re away, you’ll crave just troubling your siblings and taunting them about everything in life.

6. There’s going to be a whole lot of missing of your own room. It isn’t just a room but a place where you’ve grown up, hidden your aspirations, made memories with friends and cried knowing that it is your private space. You’re going to miss your own place.

7. You’re going to end up missing your neighbourhood a lot. The playground where you’ve spent most of your days with friends, the corner shops where the owner uncle would throw in an extra toffee for you and even the mohallawalla aunties who kept life interesting. You will miss the familiarity of it all.

8. Staying at home means you don’t have to care about where the rent will come from, who will buy groceries and how to pay your house help. Basically, you’re going to miss saving a whole lot of cash but this will also make you realize that running a house is no joke and you’ll appreciate your parents even more.

9. Spending time at home during the festivals becomes a luxury when you move away. At times, you don’t get leave and the other times, the schedule doesn’t match. Whatever the case is, there’s nothing that you will miss more than all the rituals you shared with your family on festivals while growing up. This one may actually make you cry.
