Rising Russian star Karen Khachanov admits he doesnt know much about the Swiss Davis Cup team but says his side needs to get the win this weekend. Russia will be hosted by Switzerland in a Davis Cup qualifying round tie on an indoor-hard surface in Biel.
Russian Davis Cup Team Captain Shamil Tarpischev nominated Khachanov, Danill Medvedev, Evgeny Donskoy, Andrey Rublev and Konstantin Zhzhenov for the tie. On the other side, the Swiss team will be weakened by the absence of record 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka respectively.
Swiss Captain Severin Luthi nominated for the tie Henri Laaksonen, Marc-Andrea Huesler, Jakub Paul, Sandro Ehrat and Jeremo Kym. The winner of the tie will clinch a place in the inaugural edition of the Davis Cup Finals event.
We need to try to get the win. I know Switzerland a bit, I won the European U18 Junior Championships (in Switzerland) a few years back, Khachanov said, per Swiss Tennis Twitter. World No. 362 Huesler is eager to put on a good performance against 2018 Paris Masters champion Karen Khachanov.
The two have no previous meetings. Huesler and world No. 11 Khachanov will meet in the second rubber of the tie. I have nothing to loose, I will do my best, Huesler said, per Swiss Tennis Twitter. Also read: Serbian basketball star: Novak Djokovic is a big basketball fan
