Russian Tennis Chief happy with nation’s performance

President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev said he was satisfied with the performances by Russians, especially the youth at the Australian Open. On the whole, I have no complaints to the youth at the tournament, either to Daniil Medvedev or Karen Khachanov, Tarpishchev said in an interview with TASS.

Just take a look at the German – Alexander Zverev as he either shines or snaps. I have no complaints at all regarding the quality of the play in Melbourne, except for Daria Kasatkina, he added. Kasatkina, seeded 10th at the Australian Open, made an unceremonious exit at the first Grand Slam of the year, losing in the Opening Round to Switzerlands Timea Bacsinszky 3-6; 0-6.

Speaking about Anastasia Pavlyuchenkovas defeat, Tarpishchev assessed that Russian young gun failed to make the most of the opportunities presented to her in the match and made some rather easy mistakes to give away the match to Danielle Collins in three pulsating sets.

I believe that Pavlyuchenkova was the one to win the match, but she failed at critical points making numerous mistakes. She has lost not because of the quality of her play, but as a result of her personal technical and tactical errors and of her wrong time mistakes.

Pavlyuchenkova has reached the last 8 stage at Grand Slams earlier but has failed to make it beyond that mark with this one being touted as one of her best chances to change that record. I hope Roger Federer will play Australian Open again, says Lleyton Hewitt
