These Pics Of Ice Skating & Cycling Race On World’s Deepest Lake Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

Lake Baikal in the southern Siberia is world’s deepest lake and recently the place bagged everyone’s attention for hosting an endurance skating and cycling competition.

The race was held on Lake Baikal in the Irkutsk region of Russia.

And so, after spending three days filled with quivers and cold chills, only two-thrid of the entrants were able to make it to the fine singing line.

As many as 40 Russians and 30 Dutch nationals faced extreme weather conditions during the course of this race. From strong winds to extreme cold, from unpredictable icy regions to more, the participants faced a lot.

  • Especially the blizzard during the second day, which sent most of its people back home. 

    “A snow storm started. The wind was very strong. One-third never made it that day. We had to take those sportsmen to the finish line using special transport,” the head judge said to the Vesti-Irkutsk.

    Both the races, the ice-skating and the bike race were won by local folks from Irkutsk. A guy who goes by the name of Ivan Timofeyev, won the ice skating and Aleksander Ulitinov won cycling. 

    Both took about 10 hours in the span of three days to complete this race. 

    The organisers also planned a skiing race but it had to be cancelled because of lack of participants. The arena has ample of rescuers to help people during the race.

    “I thought I had enough stamina. But it turned out I wasn’t skilled enough to ride on ice. I only got a grasp on it during the third day,” bike rider Nina Borisenko confessed to AS Baikal TV. “During the first day, I just kept falling over all the time, my whole body is covered in bruises,” she added.

    After seeing these pictures, it is quite evident that adventure is not everyone’s cup of tea.
