praised performance against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open semifinals. Speaking on The Tennis Podcast, Law said: I think it was one of the best performances Ive ever seen from Nadal, I really do.
Certainly on a hard court. I thought Tsitsipas, okay mentally in the third set hed gone, he just could not cope with what was happening. Tsitsipas did a great job of dusting himself down, going off the court after the first set, and came out and took it to Nadal and got it to 4-4.
But Nadals level tonight was frightening, it was intimidating to watch him so full of energy and determination to just dominate this guy. When Tsitsipas was piling on the pressure, he was absolutely middling backhand returns and this stream of points were coming from Nadal with the swinging serve out wide, he was middling some of these returns and Nadal takes one step and swipes forehand winners, one after another.
The former player praised Nadals ability to play aggressive tennis in advanced age. The Spaniard will face Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final on Sunday, and in an interview to CNN, Woodforde said: Its mind-blowing.
A little soft draw I think, trying not to take away anything from the three Australians, but theyre just not at that same level. Its almost like theyve played him into form. Hes playing so offensively, points are so short, but were talking about this guy who is the greatest defender, absorber of pace, one who is willing to stay out there for hours, 10 feet behind the baseline if necessary.
But hes not having to play like that at the tournament so far. But he can play like that. That for me is kind of his safety net. ALSO READ: Djokovic would beat Roger Federer in Australian Open final – Evert
