SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Another brush fire was burning Tuesday at Marines Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the second in less than a week.
Base officials have not disclosed a possible cause of the blaze that was reported shortly before 1 p.m. inside Range 409.
Depending on wind conditions, smoke drift from the fire may move over Southwest Riverside communities, including Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

Range 409 is located on the eastern edge of the base. See image below.
Local longtime residents know that when blazes break out on the base, regular afternoon Pacific Ocean wind commonly sends smoke to Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar and the rest of the region.
On Thursday, a brush fire aboard the base was an example of the smoke drift. Southwest Riverside County residents reported smoke across the region, prompting local officials to calm concerns via social media.
Camp Pendleton encompasses more than 125,000 acres and 17 miles of coastline. On its northeast boundary, the base abuts the Cleveland National Forest in Riverside County — an area just west of Southwest Riverside County.
