Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s privacy with baby Archie is royal ridiculousness

We know who got the honor of being named godparent to all of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids — because they told us.

But when it comes to their two-month-old nephew Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, we were in the dark until Saturday, because parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kept his christening private.

They have refused to reveal the names of his spiritual advisers and even banned the media from taking any photos before or after the ceremony — a custom that Prince William and Kate happily agreed to all three times their children were christened. Instead, Duchess Meghan decided to release a pair of her own curated photos after the event.

Gumshoe journalism — the Sunday Times revealed that one of the child’s godfathers is Charlie van Straubenzee, a chum from Prince Harry’s school days — has been the only way for commoners to get any information about the most famous baby in the world.

This is just ridiculous.

Before today, we’ve seen very little of Archie — a brief photo call and two arty Instagram shots, one offering a fraction of Archie’s face, another of his feet.

This would be fine had Harry and Meghan not just claimed $3 million of British taxpayers’ cash to fund their new home, Frogmore Cottage.

It’s left royal watchers with a decidedly bad taste in their mouths.

“We’re very hurt,” Anne Daley, 63, who had traveled from Wales in the hope of a glimpse of the family, told the outlet. “I pay a lot of tax for their civil duties. One minute they want to be royals, the next they don’t. We should be able to see the christening.”

But it’s just the latest in a series of events that makes it hard to embrace Harry and his increasingly entitled American wife.

Now on maternity leave, Meghan appears to be picking and choosing when she wants to make a public appearance.

While the rest of the family was greeting President Donald Trump — whom she previously called “misogynistic” and “divisive” — on a state visit to the UK last month, miraculously Meghan was by her husband’s side just weeks later at the London Series, where the Yankees took on the Red Sox to raise funds for Harry’s Invictus Games.

When Harry first announced his engagement to Meghan, I was delighted. As a British native, I figured the first biracial member of the royal family would a Febreze to the old dears.
But as soon as she took off that Givenchy wedding gown, she has been a force more of division than unity.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to…

She yelled at staff for suggesting she wear pantyhose from Brit store Marks and Spencer, according to the Sunday Times. I was also told that on her first foreign tour, she allegedly yelled at assistants as she had her hair done and the hem of her dress fixed.

A minor-league actress from LA was always going to find it tricky navigating the notoriously difficult corridors of Buckingham Palace — where the true power is said to be held by courtiers, who can be truly poisonous.

But instead of sensibly learning the game, Meghan’s bold arrival has led to a reported fall-out between Princes William and Harry and the separation of a charity that the brothers set up in 2009.

To be a beloved royal, you have to give up a bit of yourself. You are not a celebrity. You are public property. But in return, you get to travel the world, make some charitable contributions close to your heart, and live a life that most of us could only dream of.

Archie’s christening was a chance for redemption — something to be celebrated around the world. Instead, once again, we were shut out of the party.
