So I guess hes recovering well and ready to play Davis Cup. Thiems Australian Open campaign ended with a second round retirement. The Austrian was 7-5 6-4 2-0 down to rising Australian star Alexei Popyrin when he decided to retire the match due to fatigue. An exhausting first round five-set win against French Benoit Paire — which ended in the early hours of Wednesday — took a big toll on the Austrian as he didnt recover for his following match.

But fortunately, the 25-year-old appears to be ready to return to competitive action next week. Thiem has featured in six ties so far in his career. The Austrian star owns an 8-3 Davis Cup singles record and a 1-2 doubles record respectively.
