Lenox Thai, a new spot on First Avenue between East 65th and 66th streets, has opened their doors after long months of converting the cozy space, formerly home to a Chinese restaurant.

“I’m excited to bring a lot of Thai dishes that I think a lot of people in New York have never had,” said manager Cindy Lech.

The space is still cozy, with two small tables and a few window seats at a counter, and Lech said they are expecting to focus mostly on take-out and delivery.

But that cozy feeling won’t just be from the space itself.

“This is Thai comfort food,” Lech said.

The cuisine is all from northeast Thailand, a region known as Isan, and many of the recipes evoke nostalgia for home-cooking, Lech said.

Like one dish, Kai Nueng Sa Moon Prai, which consists of steamed marinated chicken legs, herbs, sauce, vegetables and rice.

“It’s a fun dish because I think back to the time when I was young, of mom cooking with their son or daughter at the table, chopping herbs and passing them along,” Lech said. “It’s a recipe where everyone can do an activity together.”

Loch said other highlights on the menu include the sour curry shrimp, curry rice ball salad and the grilled marinated pork.
