NORRISTOWN, PA — Officials are Norristown are urging residents and individuals passing through the area to slow down on one section of DeKalb Street that has been a hotbed for speeding and crashes that have caused injuries and deaths.
Specifically, the stretch of road from the Schuylkill River to Johnson Highway draws extreme and reckless speeding. The limit there is 25 miles per hour.
“There is a reason for that!” the municipality urged in a statement on Thursday. “Please, please, PLEASE follow the speed limit.”

The warning comes just days after the latest fatality on the road. One person was killed after becoming trapped in a burning vehicle following an accident at the intersection of Brown and DeKalb streets on Monday.
“We know DeKalb/Brown is an accident-prone intersection, but it does not have to be if you drive the speed limit and pay attention,” the municipality added.

Norristown recently addressed the issue of speeding on that stretch of road during a September work session. Municipal council voted to changed the limit from 35 to 25. At the time, acting police Chief Mike Bishop advised the council that the change in speed limit needed to be thoroughly advertised.
