JOLIET — Now that the Taste of Joliet is over with, the Joliet Park District staff can turn their attention back to one of their biggest renovation projects in many years. The Park District is spending roughly $7 million to update the Inwood Ice Arena. It’s the first major project since the Ice Arena opened in 1993.
According to the Park District, renovation to the 31-year-old ice rink continues and a major milestone happened last week. The new concrete is now in place and new equipment delivered. Ongoing projects include washroom and locker-room upgrades.

Joliet Park District Director Brad Staab said the new and improved Inwood Ice Arena should be ready for the community’s use by early September. The Ice Arena is also getting new bleachers as part of the $7 million project, Staab said.

“We’re right on schedule and excited to see it open over the next two months,” Staab said. “Over the next month, we’ll start seeing the ice going in.”
