Austrian tennis player Dennis Novak insists the Austrian Davis Cup team would have liked to have its too star Dominic Thiem available for this weeks tie against Chile. 2018 French Open runner-up Thiem was open to helping Austria in their Davis Cup qualifying round tie against Chile in Salzburg but he decided to skip the tie after being advised to do so by his doctor.
World No. 8 Thiem was forced to retire his Australian Open second round clash to Australian Alexei Popyrin due to fatigue. The Austrian appears to have caught some type of virus. Thiem also withdrew from the inaugural edition of the ATP 250 event in Cordoba — which is due to take place next week.
Dennis: Domi will not come to Salzburg. I think hes fine, but I dont know when hell start training again. Everyone would have liked to have him here, but you have to take it as it is.

On the other side, Chilean Team Captain Nicolas Massu nominated for the tie Nicolas Jarry, Christian Garin, Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera, Julio Peralta and Hans Podlipnik-Castillo. Rodionov, 19, will be making his Davis Cup debut when he meets Jarry in the opening rubber of the tie on an indoor-clay surface in Salzburg.
Novak has been drawn to clash against Garin in the second rubber of the tie. The winner of the tie will clinch a place in the Davis Cup Finals event. Also read: Serbian basketball star: Novak Djokovic is a big basketball fan
