After his dream spell (3.3-0-5-5) that broke the back of LSG batters, Mumbai Indians bowler Akash Madhwal revealed what skipper Rohit Sharma had advised him ahead of the match and before handing him the ball.

In a post-match interaction on the IPL website, the pacer from Uttarakhand spoke to MI batter Suryakumar Yadav and revealed his plans against the Super Giants in the IPL 2023 eliminator match.

“I was given the new ball, so I thought I’d bowl in my strength area – hard length and bhaiya (Rohit Sharma) had told me the same thing. He said do what you do, and the wickets will aid you, so I did what bhaiya asked me to execute,” Madhwal said.

When SKY quizzed him if he bowled the way he practised or if it was the way the captain had advised him, Madhwal revealed, “It was mine and bhaiya’s plan, we’d also discussed it in the hotel too so he told me that this can happen and such could be the situation. I had a very clear mindset, which is how I bowled.”

Mumbai Indians scored 182 for 8 in 20 overs and it seemed 15 short given the explosive batting firepower of Lucknow but Madhwal’s incredible figures of 3.3-0-5-5 along with terrific fielding efforts from MI saw LSG fold for a paltry 101 in 16.3 overs.

Earlier, flamboyant Afghanistan seamer Naveen ul Haq picked up four wickets as Lucknow Super Giants managed to keep Mumbai Indians under-check at 182 for 8 in 20 overs.
