No one could predict this result, including Collins herself, but there was only one player on the court for the entire match, in what has been one of the worst performances from the German on serve in her career. Kerber dropped almost 60% of the points behind her initial shot, suffering six breaks from seven opportunities she gave to Collins and managing to hold serve only once.

Danielle had 29 winners and just 17 unforced errors while Angelique fired only six winners and thrice as many mistakes, never finding her rhythm and hitting the exit door much earlier than she expected. On the other hand, Collins was in the zone from the very first point, breaking at love with a return winner in game two and forging a 4-0 advantage after a double fault from Kerber in game four, 11 minutes since the start of the match.

Danielle saved a break point in game five and she secured the opener with a third break, serving a bagel in just 20 minutes for a dream start. They traded breaks at the beginning of the second set and it was Collins who stroke again in game six, firing a backhand crosscourt winner to earn a break and never looking back.

Serving to stay in the match at 2-5, Collins was broken again in the eighth game when Danielles drop shot found a perfect place, completing a stunning day at the office for the American who has been one of the stories of the tournament so far.
