Novak Djokovic vs Naomi Osaka: Mats Wilander draws comparisons

The seven-time Grand Slam winner compared ability to turn from defence to offence to . Speaking on Eurosport after the Japaneses win over Karolina Pliskova on Thursday, Wilander said: Her movement is a little bit better than Pliskova.

She can defend. Obviously, players were so aggressive throughout the whole tournament but it seems that Osaka, especially on that backhand side, she is so strong out over there. And, similar to Novak Djokovic, She produced an offensive shot from a defensive position.

And thats what Pliskova struggled with. But I think Pliskova made improvements, she moves a little bit better, and in order to win Grand Slam titles, she needs to keep moving better. But Osaka, she is so experienced for someone being so young.

She won the US Open last year, but seems like she has been there forever. Wilander also spoke highly of Osakas future: No I didnt, because what we saw in Indian Wells earlier in the year, she beat Serena in Miami, she beat a lot of players and then she did nothing until the US Open.

No one talked about it. Then she came along, she played a great tournament all through and obviously an unbelievable final. We have seen a young player do that for so long – we watched Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal – and I really think someone who is gonna be around for a long time, definitely winning Grand Slams.
