Serbian basketball star Nikola Kalinic has congratulated fellow compatriot Novak Djokovic on winning the Australian Open. Djokovic, 31 won his seventh Australian Open title after demolishing world No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the final this past Sunday.

The Serb has won the last three Grand Slams as he now has 15 Major titles in his collection. The world No. 1 will now be motivated to win this years French Open title and become the second player ever with a Calendar Grand Slam claimed.

Kalinic, 27, who plays for Fenerbahce, also insisted that Djokovic is a humble person and a big basketball fan. In his latest blog post for EuroLeague.net, Kalinic said: Finally, I would like to congratulate Novak Djokovic for winning another Australian Open.

He is a big basketball fan and was at the Final Four in Belgrade. He is really an incredible tennis player, and I dont think people in Serbia realize how big Djokovic is in world sports right now. I got to know Nole in the Olympic Games and he is an amazing guy.

I talked to him a little bit and I could tell that he was down to earth, with both feet on the ground. I am really happy that he is back at his best level. Some other basketball players, like Milos Teodosic, have a better relationship with him, and they hang out together whenever they meet.

He had a rough period with a lot of injuries, and there were a lot of comments in Serbia about him not being great again, as if his time had passed already. He proved what a great champion he is and won his third Grand Slam title in a row.

I am very happy for him and wish him all the best. Also read: Novak Djokovic shows respect for Rafael Nadal after AO final demolition
