Former world No. 1 Andy Murray will probably opt to soon have another hip surgery and miss Wimbledon. During an emotional pre-Australian Open press conference, Murray said he would love to call it a career this July at Wimbledon.
However, he admitted during the press conference that the Australian Open may be the last tournament of his career. Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray fought hard but eventually fell just short of making a big comeback against Spains Roberto Bautista Agut in the Australian Open first round as he lost 6-4 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-7 (4) 6-2.
If I had got smoked I would have been like: Shit, I dont want that to be the last match that I play. But because of the way the match went and actually how I finished the match, I literally couldnt have done anymore, Murray said, per The Independent.
That was my maximum. My hip was completely gone at the end of the match. I couldnt have done any more. It was an amazing atmosphere. It was brilliant, so that would be a nice way to finish as well. I think I would be able to deal with that being my last match.
Murray has two options on the table — to take a break and return to the practice court during the grass season and prepare for Wimbledon, or undergo another hip surgery and improve the quality of his life. Also read: Fabio Fognini on Andy Murray: Its incredible what youve done for tennis
