MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will travel to south this weekend for a pair of Northern Intercollegiate Conference duals. They will face Augustana on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday in Marshall, Minn.
MSUM is 4-8 on the year and 1-4 in the NSIC.
The Dragons are coming off a 21-12 loss to the University of Mary on Sunday. The Dragons picked up a win at 133 pounds, when senior Blake Bosch won a 3-2 decision over Tate Barnhardt. Sophomore Kristian Vazquez also won a decision at 141 pounds with a 4-1 decision over Reed Cronin.
Senior Isaac Novacek also brought home a decision win at 157 pounds, a 12-5 decision over Donald Leuer. Senior Nader Abdullatif ended the dual at 285 with a 3-0 win over Dominic Tudor.
Bosch leads the team with a 23-1 record, and is ranked No. 2 in the nation at 133 pounds. Abdullatif has a 16-8 record at 285, while sophomore Adam Blees has a 13-8 record at 174 and Novacek has a 14-11 record at 157 on the season.
The Dragons are ranked ninth in the latest Super Region Three poll. Bosch is ranked first in the region, while Vazquez is ranked sixth in the region. Other ranked Dragons are Blees (3) and Abdullatif (8).
About the Vikings: The Vikings (11-5, 5-0 NSIC) are coming off a 19-16 win over Upper Iowa on Sunday. In that dual, the Peacocks jumped out to a 16-9 lead, but the Vikings made a comeback to win the dual and improve to a 11-5 record. Junior Aero Amo leads the Vikings with a 29-6 record, and a ranking of No. 5 in the nation at 184. Senior Michael Lowman has a 21-7 record, and freshman Jackson Sweeney has a 22-12 season record. As a team, the Vikings are receiving votes in the Division II top-25 poll.
About the Mustangs: The Mustangs (7-12, 3-4 NSIC) are coming off a 25-14 win over Northern State. In that dual, the Mustangs got a decision at 125, a tech fall at 157, and a tech fall at 184 to help them pick up their third conference win of the season. The Mustangs are led by Keegan Fingalsen, who is 20-13 on the season. Other top wrestlers are Cole Hennen (18-11), Cortez Arredondo (16-16), and Jackson Ryan (14-11).
