Abu Dhabi Director recalls good old days with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal

In an exclusive interview with Tennis World USA, the Tournament Director recalled the years when both and played the event in Abu Dhabi, especially in 2009 when the event took place for the first time.

Federer played a couple of times, Nadal played multiple times, said Gunnarsson. It was super exciting, and my strongest memory is from the year one. We had Rafa and Roger, Murray, Blake, Roddick, Davydenko, opening the new stadium.

It was a very unique moment. Every year we obviously try to mix the things up and create the best possible environment for the audience. On Andy Murray probably retiring from professional tennis, Gunnarsson concluded: I just wish him all the best, I hope he can play as long as he can because obviously, he is a great player.

Asked if bringing Roger Federer in Abu Dhabi next years field is an option, Gunnarsson replied: We always have a goal to bring the best players that we can to Abu Dhabi and we are working through the options at the moment.
