63-Year-Old Woman Plays Flute During Her Brain Surgery And The World Is Awestruck

If you have seen even one season of Grey’s Anatomy, you know that Murphy’s Law works in mysterious ways. Imagine an operation theatre that’s about to host a brain surgery – tension all around, isn’t it?

But not for this woman. 

A little too adventurous, active, courageous Anna Henry, a 63-year-old professional flute player, ensured that no one goes into the panic mode during a mind-boggling surgery that was about to happen to her. 

As the doctors cut open her scalp, Anna began playing what seemed like one of the most melodious tunes to be heard in an OT. She was undergoing a brain surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.

Anna suffered from Essential tremor – something that caused involuntary and rhythmic shaking in her body, especially hands.

As a result, she couldn’t be as easy with her flute as she wanted to – but things changed for her. Doctors at the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center performed a successful operation where Anna played her flute all along.

This activity was part of the procedure. Giving Anna the flute facilitated doctors in further analysing the procedure and see how her hands were reacting to the changes made. During the operation, unlike all the previous times, it was the first time here in front of many doctors hat Anna played her favourite instrument with steady hands.

Before the surgery, Anna could barely handle things in her hand, let alone play steadily the way she wanted to. But now, she can rock a concert.
