Altiro Latin Fusion To Host Frida Kahlo-Inspired Event With Food, Music

PLAINFIELD, IL — Altiro Latin Fusion is celebrating Hispanic heritage with a Frida Kahlo-inspired event Aug. 2.

The new downtown Plainfield restaurant, which opened in February as the group’s fourth iteration in the Chicagoland area, will bring the Frida Destination event to Des Plaines Street, between Chicago Street and the alleyway to the south of Lockport Street, from 5-10 p.m. Music, food and crafts are all on the docket.

Alcohol will only be served inside the restaurant at 15120 S. Des Plaines St.

The Village Board approved the event during its regular meeting Monday.

The following day, the village will host another first-time event: the Commercial Street Criterium Cycling Race. The day-long cycling race will take place in the same area surrounding Village Green.

“The more fun events you have like this the more we’re all able to enjoy it,” Mayor John Argoudelis told Patch. “I think it’s a great quality-of-life thing for our community. … It’s kind of a sign of a Plainfield coming of age that we have so many people wanting to do so many things here in our hometown.”

Altiro’s event isn’t the only one in Plainfield this summer celebrating Hispanic culture. The inaugural Barro Fest will take place from 1-10 p.m. July 27 at Settlers’ Park and the adjacent vacant property to the west, Patch reported.
