Andy Murray set to undergo hip surgery

With hip injury still troubling him, former World No.1 Andy Murray has been forced to withdraw from the 27th Open 13 Provence that is set to take place from the 18th to 24th February. Murray may have to undergo surgery again and therefore playing the upcoming tournaments including Marseille was no longer an option.

Its tough but I dont have a choice, I was very keen on returning to Marseille where I won the tournament in 2008. This title, one of the first of my career, remains a great memory, the official site states.

Tournament director Jean-Franois Caujolle showed his support and concern for the former Wimbledon Champion. I feel for him. It makes me sad to see such a great player, that is also a person that I like a lot, have to go through such tough times.

I wish for him to be able to overcome this episode in order to come back to the courts and end his career on his own terms. He deserves it, he said. Andy Murray will be replaced in the main draw by Tomas Berdych, a former runner-up in Marseille (2013) and is making a comeback after being side lined due to injury for 6 months.

The Czech has already a final under his belt in 2019 (Doha) and is in the fourth round of the Australian Open where he is set to take on the winner of Rafael Nadal and Alex de Minaur. My tennis may be smoother than the other guys, says Roger Federer
