Australian Open: Karolina Pliskova sweeps Garbine Muguruza in an hour!

. The Czech served at 78% and that was the winning formula for her today, dropping seven points on serve and facing only one break point in the entire encounter.

Muguruza did convert it but she needed much more to stay competitive and on the positive side of the scoreboard, losing almost 60% of the points in her games and letting Karoline break her five times from seven opportunities.

Pliskova had stunning 23 winners and just three unforced errors, taming her shots beautifully and overpowering a 15-20 ratio from the Spaniard who faded from the court in the second set and staying empty-handed on hard-court Grand Slam yet again.

Garbine drew first blood in the third game when she broke at 15 with a smash winner but she sprayed a backhand error in the very next game to keep Pliskova in contention. The Czech player held at love three times in a row to impose her shots and she moved 5-3 up after a return winner in game eight, sealing the opener with a service winner a few minutes later for a 6-3.

There was only one player on the court in set number two, with Karolina earning a break in the opening game and another one at love in game five that pushed her closer to the finish line. Pliskova held at love with an ace to extend the lead and it was all over when she grabbed another break in gave seven following a backhand error from Garbine, reaching the last eight and hoping for more of the same against Simona Halep or Serena Williams.
