BMW Refuels A Car Mid-Drift To Retake The World Record For Longest Drift Of 8 Hours!

We don’t really know what it is like to lose a world record to someone, but we bet it hurts. It sure hurt BMW enough that the company practically invented a whole new refuelling rig and technique to tank up a car!

That’s commitment.

BMW was the record holder for the longest drift when driver Johan Schwartz set a record back in 2013. That record was broken by Toyota, twice in three years! To rest it back from the Japanese rival, BMW came up with something so outlandish, it beggars belief.

BMW

The company wanted to set the world record for the longest drift in a car for an unbelievable 8 hours. To do this, the car would have needed a huge fuel tank. But that would put off the car’s dynamics. So they took inspiration from fighter aircraft and came up with a refuelling rig that can pump 68 litres of fuel in 50 seconds, while the car carries on drifting!

Don’t Miss
  • How did all this end? BMW set a new drifting record for 8 hours, covering 374.1 km! This will take some beating.
