Can Victoria Azarenka get into a higher gear to have a success in 2019?

Overall, it was a pretty good match, but obviously sitting here is disappointing, knowing that I could have won that match, with all the opportunities that I created, Azarenka had said after the loss of playing against Venus Williams in the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand 3-6, 6-1, 3-6.

The fans were packed in the stadium to perhaps watch two heavy tennis resume women battle it out. It might have been many factors contributing to Azarenkas defeat in the match with Venus Williams. The Belarusian didnt have many matches accumulated plays resulting from her being unprepared.

Many have pointed out that it was her first match of the new 2019 season and that the last time shed been on a court was back in September at the Pan Pacific Open with Camila Giorgi. She had retired in just under a half hour from a gastrointestinal illness giving Giorgi the match.

The tournament before that was the US Open where Azarenka bowed to Sloane Stephens in the third round 6-3, 6-4. Another reason could have been the calibre of Azarenka herself not playing that consistent as she says I didnt take my opportunities…there were mistakes…not huge mistakes but they cost me the match.

She knows well the quality of Venus Williams performances, but in the last two meets, Azarenka came out victorious. She admits that the skills she has are good, but getting them in order and to execute them is another thing.

..its just being able to put all of the things together, it takes time sometimes, she says. Azarenka also knows the point of staying focused throughout the point can turn a bunch of rallies resulting in a lost point of winning the game or match.

Its for now that the Belarusian will re-evaluate what her strong and weak points are and to begin to get consistent with every match. She will enjoy the New Zealand sights and prepare for the Australian Open and she says intently that Its the beginning of the season and as much as its frustrating sitting here…after a loss, Im looking forward to the whole season.
