Bellator MMA fighter and former UFC star Chael Sonnen recently sat down with Brandan Schaub for Below the Belt on SHOWTIME, and made some wild claims about his one and only interactions with WWE over the years.
Sonnen claims that someone from WWE – who he opted not to mention by name – once offered him $1 million to “no-call, no-show” his fight against Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight Championship. Interestingly, the two have actually met twice for the same title, so the alleged conversation either took place in August 2010 prior to UFC 117 or in July 2012 prior to UFC 148.
Furthermore, Sonnen claims the same WWE source also offered him a secondary deal in the neighborhood of $5 million to show up on Monday Night Raw with the UFC Championship if he took the fight with Silva and won. As a part of the offer, he was not allowed to inform Dana White or warn the company in any way.
Sonnen states that he never informed White about the conversation with WWE, and that it was the only direct communication he’s had with them. In June 2014 he was released from the UFC due to failing multiple drug tests, and was suspended for two years from active competition. In 2016 he debuted with Bellator MMA scoring major wins over Wanderlei Silva and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, as well as a submission loss to Tito Ortiz.
