Colombia target their best Davis Cup result

Doubles specialist Robert Farah says Colombia are eager to finally make a breakthrough in the Davis Cup as they target to clinch a place in the new Davis Cup Finals event. Colombia are set to host Sweden on an indoor clay-court in Bogota in a Davis Cup qualifying round tie from February 01-02.

While the old Davis Cup format was in use, Colombia never made the World Group stage. They are now hoping to beat Sweden and achieve their best result in the competition by qualifying for the Davis Cup Finals event. It will be huge.

Its been our goal forever now to be in the [Davis Cup] World Group, but with the old format, we werent able to make it. We played a play-off tie six times [in 2010, 2013-2015 and 2017-2018] and we were always only a couple of points away in a couple of ties, Farah admitted, per the Davis Cup site.

For us it is a good chance to finally make it to the top level. Its a big monkey on our back right now for Colombia as a team. I feel like to give that happiness to the crowd, to us, to the country will be very, very good for us.

Colombia will also be represented by Juan Sebastian Cabal, Santiago Giraldo, Daniel Elahi Galan and Santiago Gonzalez. On the other side, Swedish Davis Cup Team Captain Johan Hedsberg nominated Elias Ymer, Mikael Ymer, Markus Eriksson, Jonathan Mridha and Robert Lindstedt.
