The European Commission agreed on 12 February to extend the mandate of Luc Briol as director of its consumer, health and food executive agency (CHAFEA), until 28 February 2015.

CHAFEA, which is based in Luxembourg and has around 50 staff, was re-born in January, created out of what had been the executive agency for health and consumers and before that the executive agency for public health. Briol has been director of this agency since 2006 and his second mandate was to expire on 16 February.

The extension of his mandate is supposed to ensure continuity in CHAFEA’s first year of operations.
