Gov. Andrew Cuomo took Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to task for making an inappropriate comparison to the Holocaust by calling detention facilities at the southern border “concentration camps.”
“I think it’s a wholly inappropriate comparison. The Holocaust, you’re taking about a tragedy of biblical proportion and one of the greatest tragedies in history,” Cuomo told reporters at his Manhattan office Thursday before departing on a solidarity trip to Israel.
“Six million Jews died during the Holocaust. There is no comparison to the Holocaust, period, and to draw an equivalency suggests one does not understand what happened in the Holocaust.”
Last week freshman Ocasio-Cortez (D-Bronx/Queens) accused the Trump administration of “running concentration camps” along the border, while also slamming the administration’s plans to place migrant kids in Fort Sill, Oklahoma — the site of Japanese-American internment camps during World War II.

The Democratic socialist was blasted by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, as well as famed Israeli Holocaust museum Yad Vashem.
Cuomo agreed the situation at the border is “horrendous” and a “human rights violation.”
“It is separating families, it is brewing hatred and building walls and dividing…but it’s wholly inappropriate to compare it to the Holocaust,” he said.
Ocasio-Cortez has defended calling the border facilities concentration camps.
