Mark Calanag, the father of Michelle and David Paul, told ABC News that he has been in contact with the US embassy in Fiji and is awaiting the results of their autopsies.
“I gave them instruction not to do any cremation until I’m satisfied,” Calanag told the network. “I would like the whole world to know if they died of infectious diseases.”
The couple — from Fort Worth, Texas — was healthy when they arrived on their vacation but fell ill the day before their scheduled departure. They later died.
Calanag said he wanted the CDC to confirm how they perished and “tell Americans and other people that these are the issues you’re going to face if you have to travel to Fiji. Be aware.”
A US Department of State official confirmed the deaths of Michelle and David Paul in Fiji to KVUE and said they were monitoring the investigation.
