Flight turns to chaos as bugs fall from overhead compartment

This is what it’s like to fly in roach class.

Flight attendants on a Canadian airliner asked the passengers to play exterminators and squash an army of bugs that fell out of the overhead compartments, according to a report.

The incident occurred on an Air Transat plane that was about to take off from London Gatwick to Vancouver when the cockroach-type insects fell into screaming passengers’ laps, Mail Online reported.

“A bug fell right down by my seat and another landed in the lap of the man next to me. … It was disgusting,” Jenna Sullivan, 25, told the news outlet.

Sullivan, who was traveling to Vancouver to attend a friend’s wedding, said the creepy-crawly stowaways scattered down the aisle of the Boeing A300.

Another passenger, who asked not to be named, said: “It was mostly those sitting at the rear of the plane who were affected, but we all saw the pest control people come on board.”

The airline announced after a seven-hour delay that the flight had been canceled, apparently because the crew could not complete it within the time limits on the shift.

“The safety and comfort of our passengers is of paramount importance, and we are sorry for the delay to our flight to Vancouver which was due to the need to fumigate the aircraft,” airline rep Charlie Hampton told The Post in a statement.

“Passengers were provided with hotel accommodation and meals, and we regret any inconvenience caused by the delay to their journey,” he added.

A Gatwick Airport spokesman told Mail Online that the pest control workers who boarded the infested plane were from the airline.

Bug expert Alison Blackwell said the creatures were actually a type of scarab beetle.
