defeated Timea Bacsinszky 7-5, 6-2 to reach the Australian Open fourth round. The Spanish player was coming from a late night match on Friday against Johanna Konta that ended at 3:12 AM. I guess today is a normal day, even if its a night match, said Muguruza.
What is not normal is to finish at 4. Theres no other sport that you play that late. It was very awkward. What was the hardest part of finishing that late, the recovery or the preparation for this match? Its pretty similar because I think I went back to sleep around 5, so its very messed up.
You dont know what to do the next day because you wake up very late. Youre still tired from the match. It messed up a little bit the normal circumstances of a day off of matches. I just deal with it the better I can. Today I was happy.
Im done, so I can rest and recover. What time did Muguruza wake up? At 11, 11:30 more or less. So not a lot of sleep. But cant sleep longer than that. Its weird for my body. I was waking up a lot.
I won. I went through it. So I hope its not going to happen again that late. Muguruza also commented on her pre-season training: I, like everybody, did hard work. I tried to stay a little bit more away of the expectation.
I dont know, last year I had a lot of expectation to keep up the good year that I had, to right away start the year in the same line. I think that got me very anxious to play the same level. At the end it got a little messy.
I just work hard, trying to not think a lot about the result, not think a lot about, okay, how is it going to go. Just more easy. I think at some point it will pay off, better earlier than later. Thats it. More freedom in my mind.
