Tread lightly.
That seems to be the message Kawhi Leonard and his camp have sent to his free-agency suitors, telling the teams he’s meeting with, including the Lakers, Clippers and Raptors, to keep everything about the recruitment process to themselves.
“The teams have simply been told this: If information on your presentation gets out, you’re really imperiling your chance to sign Kawhi Leonard,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Wednesday on Get Up! “You understand why teams are keeping this so private, and his camp has not allowed that information to really get out.”
While the NBA’s other star free agents made their decisions when free agency opened on Sunday, Leonard is going against the grain, as is his wont, taking his time while deciding where he wants to play.
It seemed earlier this week that momentum was growing toward a Leonard-Lakers union, but because of the lack of information, it’s been difficult to separate fact from fiction.

LAS VEGAS — The Knicks brain trust of Steve Mills,…
Leonard and his camp certainly can’t be pleased about the frenzy that broke out on Wednesday when the entire city of Toronto got swept up in #KawhiWatch. Canadian television station CP24 had footage of a plane owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Raptors, landing at Pearson airport. The speculation was that Leonard was on the plane, but that wasn’t confirmed.
When word spread that Raptors president Masai Ujiri might be meeting Leonard at the Hazelton Hotel, Raptors fans showed up in hopes of seeing the reigning NBA Finals MVP.
There’s no telling if the spectacle will hurt Toronto’s chances at keeping Leonard a year after trading for him. Wojnarowski reported a deal could be done sometime on July 4.
