Lesbian couple assaulted on bus: Attackers viewed us as ‘sexual objects’

The lesbian couple attacked by a homophobic mob on a London bus said it was clear the men who punched and robbed them viewed the pair as “sexual objects” there to “entertain.”

In a new interview, Melania Geymonat, 28, and her partner Chris, 29, said the bloody beating was “firstly, an attack against women” that began after their teen attackers saw the couple kiss, Geymonat told Belfast’s Channel 4.

“They started making some really aggressive comments about us being lesbians and sexual positions,” Geymonat said, while sitting beside Chris, an American whose last name has not been publicized.

The couple was pictured in the TV interview with healed faces since a photo of the pair bloodied and battered on the night of the May 30 attack went viral.

The pair also urged viewers that they’re among many gay people attacked for their sexuality.

“It’s not the first time this happens to me that I’m with a girlfriend or on a date and men tend to be excited by watching,” said Geymonat, a Ryanair flight attendant from Uruguay.

“Hate crimes are alive and well, and it’s not a surprise,” Chris added. “We have gotten a lot of attention for it. It doesn’t mean it’s not happening elsewhere.”
